Heidelberg Health Economic Summer Schools 2024 & 2025
The Heidelberg Health Economic Summer Schools 2024 & 2025, high-level programs offered by InnoValHC under the auspices of the Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg, addressed the role of (health) economic evaluation in the regulatory context of formal Health Technology Assessments (HTAs).
The Summer Schools 2024 (Sept. 23-27) & 2025 (Sept. 11-13) took place in the Dolomites – the NOI Techpark and NOBIS conference center, opened in 2023 by the city of Bruneck-Brunico (Pustertal - Val Pusteria) in cooperation with the “Nature of Innovation” (NOI) network of research institutes rooted in South Tyrol / Italy and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.
The scientific program in 2024 was enhanced by a special evening event – participants were invited to a “fireside chat” with Thomas B. Cueni, until recently Director General of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), long-time Secretary General of Interpharma, and Secretary of the Biopharmaceutical CEO Round Table (BCR).
In addition to intense scientific programs, participants were invited to a Evening Receptions at the Bruneck-Brunico Castle with its RIPA Messner Mountain Museum – including a tour personally guided by Christian Tschurtschenthaler, the former mayor of Bruneck-Brunico.
One program day in 2024 day took place at the LUMEN museum & event space on the summit plateau of the Kronplatz (2,275m above sea level), surrounded by spectacular views of the Dolomites. A guided tour to the LUMEN Museum of Mountain Photography during an extended lunch break was organized as well.
Highly Interactive Summer School Programs
Scientific programs were strictly evidence-based and informed by the latest progress in health economics; a clear line was drawn between facts and opinions, with ample room for debate and critical review of popular arguments frequently brought forward in discussions.
In 2024, we offered a full-week core program; the Core Module covered basics & principles in health economics & policy, as well as topics related to health technology assessment (HTA) & economic evaluation in theory & practice.
In 2025, we offered a Basic Module covering topics such as principles of decision analysis, valuation principles in economics as well as costing in theory & practice.
